Our Values.
Affordable to own and affordable to maintain. We strive to provide housing that meets certain price points making them attainable for our workforce. Focused on providing housing that our school teachers, firemen, policemen, and first responders can purchase and coupling that with the idea that these homes provide a healthy and energy efficient atmosphere for these homeowners to raise their families.

Education & Outreach.
We believe that education is the first step toward empowerment. As designers, we begin each project by collecting pertinent information about the place in which we are working: the natural environment, the people and their values, the external pressures they are facing, and the ability of design to address these issues. By sharing this valuable knowledge, the community is better equipped to make well-informed decisions that affect positive change in the places they live. The Studio always seeks additional opportunities to provide community outreach through our work, whether we’re mentoring future designers or creating case study booklets to inspire other communities facing similar challenges.

Participation.
We believe that every citizen should be involved in the decisions affecting their natural and built environments. We also believe that in order for a design to meet the needs and reflect the values of a community, that entire community must be engaged throughout the design process. This is why we use participatory design methods that, in addition to promoting inclusiveness and social equity, also foster ownership of the project. When inclusive civic engagement successfully unites a community around a common solution, and when that solution is realized in perceivable, positive change, we believe that people will be inspired and empowered to continue working to improve their communities.

Collaboration.
We believe that the collective wisdom of the group is stronger than the knowledge of one, especially when dealing with the complex and multi-dimensional issues of America’s struggling urban areas. On every project, in addition to engaging the community itself, we will engage our network of partners: allied organizations and non-profits, government agencies, universities, and fellow design professionals, to mobilize additional knowledge/expertise, capital, and leadership support. This collaborative, inter-disciplinary approach strengthens our capacity to reach an holistic solution and to make change happen.

Sustainability.
We believe that a healthy natural environment, in addition to a vibrant economy and an extensive social support network, is an essential component to a strong, livable community. We promote sustainable design and development strategies, such as natural resource conservation, smart-growth planning, low-impact development techniques, and green-building technologies, in order to create a more harmonious co-existence between the built and natural worlds. Sustainability is about balance, and towns wishing to ensure a stable, secure future must learn to evaluate and balance the environmental, economic, and social impacts of all decisions.
